LED (Light Emitting Diode) Light Therapy

January 22nd, 2010

At the SKN Holistic Rejuvenation Clinic we unite eastern medicine with western technology by incorporating LED into all of our Facials and Acupuncture treatments. This helps to heal the skin after extractions, reduces redness in clients with rosacea, aides in product penetration and general healing and rejuvenation of the skin.

We also incorporate the blue light for all acne facials to help dry up the excess oil in the skin and prevent potential breakouts.

To give you a little information about LED, what it is, how it works and why it is beneficial for your skin I thought I would write a little blurb. Read more…

IPL Hair Removal – How it works

November 21st, 2009

nov2109For those of you out there who may be Laser skeptics, I thought I’d write up a little blurb to give a more detailed explanation on how it works and hopefully answer any questions you may have about the procedure.

IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light. The IPL is penetrated through a Safire crystal to target pigment in the hair follicles during the active stage of growth. For example, if you were to pluck out a hair and see a bulb on the end, that is a hair that is currently in the active stage of growth. The rest of the hairs are in the resting phase or they are getting ready to shed. Read more…

A Death by Suntan at Age 26!!

September 23rd, 2009

sept2509I was very touched by the following article. Please read this story about Glenna Kohl who grew up doing everything right. A vegetarian, she did yoga, hiked, jogged and rowed regularly. Unfortunately she did indulge in one unhealthy practice: tanning. Like millions of young women she believed that a bronzed look made her more beautiful. As health-conscious as Glenna was, she never thought that this trendy habit was as deadly as it was. Follow the article to the end to learn what a melanoma looks like and which moles are normal and which might be dangerous. Early detection and prevention are key to this deadly disease. Please take care!

The Key to Polished Looking Skin

June 26th, 2009

june2709Exfoliating is a very important step in skin care and all too often skipped. It is the key to healthy, fresh and polished skin. As we age the cell turnover rate slows down and our skin loses that reflective glow. Our goal with exfoliation is to remove the dead cells from the skin surface. It takes at least a few days for a sizeable amount of dead cells to accumulate. If you exfoliate too often you may be removing too many living cells and leave your skin feeling irritated and damaged. The frequency of exfoliation depends on your skin your skin type. Read more…

Sun Sensitivity -What’s wrong with me?

June 5th, 2009

june0509Ever wonder why you are sensitive to sunlight even though you have lathered tons of sunscreen? Some foods, drugs and cosmetic products can actually make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. This is known as a photosensitive reaction. Photosensitivity is an abnormal response of the skin to sun exposure making one more prone to sunburn, rashes, swelling and blistering. Foods that may trigger a photosensitive reaction include: lime, parsley, celery and parsnip. Even natural products such as essential oils of bergamont, cedar, lavender, rosemary, lime and lemon may induce a reaction. Certain drugs such as antibiotics, antihistamines and pain killers may react negatively to sunlight and damage the skin. Read more…
