My revelation between skin care and excercise!

May 11th, 2010

In this day and age, I am becoming extremely aware of the importance of excercise. I know that those vibrating slimming belts from the 50′s are not going to cut it. I need to make a lifestyle change, I need to set goals and stick to a plan. Excerise is key to maintain a healthy heart, strong bones, cholesterol levels….and the list goes ON and ON!! I work out for the health benefits of a long, healthy life, as well as trying to keep the numbers on the scale from climbing up, up, up. We’ve all heard “diets don’t work”…It’s taken me years to realize it, but I think “they” are right…Diets DON’T work. There is no quick fix, or magic pill that will keep you fit and healthy for life…You have to work at it, you need a plan and you need to take action! If you are consistent and you  really make it habitual and normal to stay fit, you will reap the rewards. Hands down! Now… what does exercise have to do with skin care? Read more…

Happy Easter Weekend

April 2nd, 2010

Wow, It’s April already.  Easter is here and many of us are preparing for a family filled long weekend.  As I type this blog I am staring down a basket filled will little gold wrapped milk chocolate easter bunnies and I’m trying to refrain myself! But chocolate really isn’t that bad for us (in small doses). Especially dark chocolate. Dark chocolate is full of antioxidants which help fight off those nasty free radicals. Free radicals come from things like pollution, chemicals, smoking and preservatives in our foods. They cause cancer and they also lend a huge hand in making us age WAY faster.   Read more…

Can your attitude really affect your skin?

March 29th, 2010

Answer:YES!

“Your skin is like a mirror – it reflects everything that is going on within your body and mind. Pay attention to keeping your mind, body and emotions balanced, and the results will show up as a clear, glowing complexion.” -This is a quote I recently heard and I really liked the message. It’s so true, we get so caught up in the hussle and bustle of our daily lives, we don’t even realize that our stress levels are affecting our immune system, AND the body’s biggest organ-SKIN!  Stress  puts a damper on the body’s digestive system and interferes with the ability to absorb proper nutrients. So we need to reduce our stress levels and work on staying positive,  But if you don’t have time to meditate the stress away for 3 hours at a budist temple (which I’ve done and is amazing btw). There are small, day to day steps you can do to help achieve and maintain that glowing skin…oh and stress levels too:)

1. DIET: A balanced diet and proper eating habits help keep the body and mind performing at optimal levels. I try to eat unprocessed foods. I am also aware of the eat for your skin diet, which includes foods like Salmom, blue berries, nuts and seeds, leafy greens, sprouts, wheat grasses, etc. Read more…

Spring into healthy, glowing skin

March 27th, 2010

Spring is a time for renewal, in so many ways. Our spirits are lifted as the days get longer and the warm weather makes us smile. Now is the perfect time to slough off winter’s dull, dry, flaky skin. First, EXFOLIATE!  Use a gentle, yet effective product such as our Jade & Ginseng Resurfacing Exfoliator. To uncover radiant skin, it is good to do about 3x a week; wet skin with warm water and use gentle circular motions, avoiding eye areas. Next, apply a light moisturizer,I love the Laminaria facial moisturizer by Seaflora. Once that has seeped into skin,  I recommend a tinted moisturizer with an SPF (my absolute favorite is by Laura Mercier). You can use this in place of your foundation. It has a nice light coverage that will leave your skin glowing. Read more…

Healthy Holiday Eating

December 12th, 2009

dec1209During holiday season, many of us worry about weight gain and focus on restraining ourselves from the foods we really love to eat. Focusing on avoiding food, however, may actually create a sense of deprivation that sets us up for overeating. Instead, let’s learn to tune into our body signals of hunger and fullness and realize what our physical cravings for specific foods are. The more we can relax about food, the less likely we will have a problem over the holidays! Read more…

IPL Hair Removal – How it works

November 21st, 2009

nov2109For those of you out there who may be Laser skeptics, I thought I’d write up a little blurb to give a more detailed explanation on how it works and hopefully answer any questions you may have about the procedure.

IPL stands for Intense Pulse Light. The IPL is penetrated through a Safire crystal to target pigment in the hair follicles during the active stage of growth. For example, if you were to pluck out a hair and see a bulb on the end, that is a hair that is currently in the active stage of growth. The rest of the hairs are in the resting phase or they are getting ready to shed. Read more…
